Maize growing under solar irrigation in Munyama Village

In the past, our response to the food crisis in Munyama Village meant bringing in short-term food aid. In 2025, we chose a more sustainable path.

We identified three local farmers who were manually fetching water from the lake with buckets—a slow process made incredibly dangerous by local crocodiles. Through our pilot project, we equipped them with solar-powered water kits, including a 0.5HP solar pump, a 1,000L water tank, and 100 meters of piping.

When our team visited on September 20th for a monitoring trip, the transformation was clear. We didn't bring food this time; instead, we walked away with fresh maize grown right there in the village.

"I would like to say thank you for bringing this program to us. We have started farming and are now able to have food throughout the year. No more challenges, we have food to eat throughout the year as well as money to sustain our household."
